Dear Reader,
These past few weeks have been overwhelmingly intense.
From personal upgrades to navigating an entirely new terrain, it has felt like stepping into a world where almost everything is unfamiliar. This year, one of my deepest commitments is consistent personal reinvention. I knew it would stretch me, but I did not know it would shake me like this.
There were moments I genuinely felt like I knew nothing at all. The technicalities, the unfamiliar skills, the steep learning curves, they all came like waves. My head hurt. My mind felt stretched beyond its familiar borders. My body certainly did not find the whole experience amusing either. I had to sit for long hours, sometimes far into the night, wrestling with things that did not come naturally at first.
Yet, strangely, I am enjoying my becoming.
The process is harsh, but it is honest. Growth has a way of dismantling the version of you that once felt sufficient.
This season demanded rearrangement. Some routines had to pause. Some goals had to wait. For instance, my commitment to showing up at the gym every day had to take a temporary back seat. For those of you who enjoy that “gyming” side of me, please forgive the disappearance, it is only for a moment.
Even my writing rhythm took a hit. I have not been as consistent with my three newsletters a week as I would love to be.
And the truth is, I have missed writing to you.
Yes, I have been writing. As ministers, writing is part of our calling. But writing sermons and materials is not the same as writing to you. This space is personal. It is where I get to share the journey, not just the message.
I have longed for a moment like this again, and I am glad it finally arrived tonight.
Let me leave you with three things this season has taught me:
1. Intentionally move against your comfort zone.
Growth rarely comes to those who stay where they are celebrated. Dare new territories. Attempt what intimidates you. Sometimes the next version of you is hiding behind something you currently feel unqualified to attempt.
2. Do not be afraid to start again.
There are seasons where your previous schedule, plans, and goals must temporarily go on the altar. Not because they were wrong, but because something greater is demanding your attention. Sometimes progress looks like disruption.
3. Learn to relate with the pain of new moves.
When you step into unfamiliar territory, it can feel like you are losing yourself. Your confidence may shake. Your certainty may wobble. But often, that “loss” is simply the shedding of an old skin. It is how you discover the version of you that was previously hidden.
Becoming is rarely comfortable, but it is always worth it.
Permit me to drop my pen here tonight.
But before I go, prepare your heart.
Very soon, I will be releasing seven loaded newsletters, each one designed to call out the best in you and keep you far away from the tragedy of settling.
Until then, never forget this:
You are always in my heart. ✨
